Health & Social
Workforce
Optimizing and sustaining the health and social workforce needed to achieve universal health coverage and well-being for all.
Our Work
Open Development supports countries to develop, finance, distribute, and capacitate a health and social workforce aligned with the population’s health needs. We support governments to optimize their public workforce to sustain equitable access to health care, including:
Assessing and costing the workforce needed to support universal health coverage and to expand the Essential Health Services Packages
Advising on the use of human resource data and other available information, such as labor market assessments, to inform annual human resource planning and multiyear strategic decision-making
Strengthening the coordination and stewardship role of the ministries of health to address whole-of-government policies and strategies in support of universal health coverage
Country Spotlight
Open Development supports the Governments of Lesotho and Namibia to realize their vision for universal health coverage, with funding from USAID and Global Fund for Aids, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Our Senior Human Resources for Health (HRH) Advisors, embedded within the Ministries of Health, support the Governments of Lesotho and Namibia to plan, cost, prioritize and manage their public health workforces of the future. Our work happens behind the scenes, supporting government leadership to convene stakeholders around human resources for health planning and advising public servants as they implement the government’s priorities within the constraints of their own challenges.
